The Future of our WSC Online Content after the Closure of the eShop for the Wii U

The Long Time Running Nintendo eShop for the Wii U and 3DS departs from Millions of Consoles Worldwide

How the eShop closure could lead to other closures in the future such as Online Functionality and what we know already

With an end to the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U and including the 3DS systems, our community (Team B.F.F Gamers) and the community Discord has questioned whether players from Wii Sports Club will be able to adapt with the closure and what will this mean for our Team Members.

As the game is no longer for sale on the storefront, including access to the Free Trial for new users, including the ability to purchase the 24 Hour and Club Passes, that means there will be no more new players who will be able to purchase the game on the eShop version unless they get their hands on the disc copy which gives them immediate access to ALL FIVE sports. They could still see Wii Sports Club on the shop unless users previously downloaded it there but sadly, it’s off the catalog now.

Seeing the eShop go down on Time….

When the Nintendo eShop closed at 5 PM Pacific Time, it had left us gutted that the store’s catalog and a majority of the games departed right on time. We (Team Members) were sad to see it go with our community Discord server flooding with RIPs and Reaction Emotes falling.

Team B.F.F Gamers have issued a statement on their perspective of the eShop Closure.

“It’s with heavy heart that the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS and Wii U have now gone away with. The eShop was the essential part of getting the games we loved, especially Wii Sports Club in particular. We bought all five passes on the shop and we will remember how positive the whole catelog was. I (Mr B.F.F) will certainly miss the Nintendo eShop, it was there for a long time and got me exploring when I was on the Console, long before the Nintendo Switch came out.”

“We will all miss it, Team B.F.F Gamers will miss it, our larger community will miss it, it’s just truly an end of an era, and I will be ready for the next. Thank you, Nintendo eShop for everything you’ve brought out on the 3DS and Wii U. Farewell.”

Adapting on the Future of the eShop Closure

According to Team Member, Mr B.F.F, he said that the show must go on and we have to adapt to the environment of what’s left off the rubble of the Wii U console now. Mr B.F.F confirmed that he will continue to play Wii Sports Club, including a confirmation of CenturyBuilder and Macaroni Mii for which they both announced they will continue as well.

Newest Team Member, Gameboy has expressed recently that he will continue his grind on WSC with players online and is still looking to record Online Games on camera. Quintin has also been discussing his future of WSC but has worries that people will be leaving the beloved game, since the eShop’s departure. This could lead to many players, who did not get the game, unable to participate. Less players could also result in drastic chance decreases of finding anyone Online.

What’s the future of Online Play on WSC?

It is confirmed that there is no change of Online Functionally as a result to the Closure of eShop. We have no idea however, whether the future of the Online Servers is to fade away. While Nintendo stated that Online Play functionally will NOT be changed during the announcement of the eShop closure, we will be assured that this may not last long that it might be. We will be bringing you updates as time goes by. The Fate of WSC Online will depend if the servers stay up. Some Team Members are still positive that they will continue to maintain form on WSC while the server’s remain up for the time being.

Team B.F.F Gamers has also issued a short and sweet statement for the future of the Game and the Team Member’s participation.

“Team B.F.F Gamers will be continuing to play Wii Sports Club Online as time will go by. Our Team Members confirmed their continued participation as well. While it’s saddening that the eShop closed down, which may result in a decrease in Search, we are still positive to share some of the best moment from the beloved game (WSC) which we all loved to play for months now. We have no certainty whether the Online Server will go down, but we still have strong positivity to continue playing what we love. See you in the Sports Club.”

Looking at the eShop in our Perspective.

While the focus is on the future of WSC, we want to take a moment to look at some of the moments we’ve seen on the Nintendo eShop. Mr B.F.F already made Two Tweets on Twitter showing the closure and and uploaded a YouTube video looking at what it was before and then after the closure for the 3DS, leaving a legacy and catalog behind millions of people. Here is a video from Mr B.F.F’s Archive channel showing what the shop looked like before the closure, before the opening minutes of the Closure.

The Tweets linked in the YouTube video will show the screenshots of the closure as well. Meanwhile, Team Member, Quintin also made a video of the eShop moments before the store shut down for the Wii U. We will go ahead and link that video for you here. It’s just sad to see the eShop go down but now it is time to move on.

So that’s all for now… What are your thoughts on the eShop closure? We got a lot of comments falling in our Communities expressing the Shop’s departure but how do you feel about it closing? 1. R.I.P Wii U & 3DS Shop.
This was one of the saddest moments of 2023, as I was starting to explore more games! I also started to like Mario and his friends the same month it was closing!
